We are planning something new, jokingly called the 'spikey-ola', because we haven't thought of a better name yet. Suggestions welcome!
Suzuki or Colorstrings cello teachers will be painfully aware of the difficulty of getting very small cellos. We may have found just the answer to the problem! At one time it was not uncommon to teach very young cellists on a large viola, but it seems that nobody regularly supplies large violas with a cello spike fitted. Until now.
We are planning to fit a 17½" viola with a spike. The viola that will be used is a Gliga Genial 1 and the idea of doing this has been inspired by the amazing cello-like tone of the large Gliga violas.
We would be interested in any initial expressions of interest from teachers who might like to check out such an instrument. It is expected that the price (which could change) is likely to be around £350 including a case but not a bow.
