Why aren’t Armstrong flutes common over here? Simply, many shops don’t stock them because they aren’t asked for them and they are content to carry on selling today what they sold yesterday.Only when the shops are faced with a demand for other makes will they consider getting them, but until then they will continue to enjoy the cosy arrangements they have with their exisiting suppliers and there is no pressure on them or incentive to add to the ranges they sell. So they will continue to sell tomorrow what they sell today, and so it goes on. Armstrong is a name that teachers HAVE heard of and whose quality they respect. Armstrong flutes are now being imported by respected UK distributor Vincent Bach International. A couple of years ago they (Armstrong) have now introduced a range of flutes especially designed for the European market. We expect great things of Armstrong, and so should you! Flute buying fashions have changed over the years. Once it had to be Buffet, then it had to be Trevor James, now it has to be Yamaha. Tomorrow it will have to be, well, Armstrong we hope, but even if it doesn’t you will still have got yourself a superb instrument! The head joint on these flutes has been designed by William Simmons of Liverpool (try dropping that name into a conversation with a flute teacher!) It is "progressive" in style, which means that it has a lot of undercutting and is designed for easy response. The flutes have a professional scale at A=442. The open holed instruments have the scale adjusted to make sure that they are as well in tune as the closed hole ones (not all flutes do this!) and they do have a SPLIT E!! (Split E is not compulsory if you don’t want it though!) They are easy to play, well made and have lovely tone. Each one comes with a professional type French style case and cover. There is a care kit and even a fingering chart. You won’t find a care kit included as standard with the big names and can expect an extra £15 or thereabouts for one. With Armstrong, you get the WHOLE thing! “All that sounds very good” do we hear you say, “but supposing I get one and the teacher still insists on a Yamaha or something else?” That should not be likely (assuming the teacher does not have a financial interest in channelling you to a particular shop) but if it does happen we will take it back (sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery at your expense) allowing a full refund (assuming it has not been damaged in any way), though we reserve the right to deduct £7.00 for our postage. This undertaking applies only within UK. Can we say fairer than that? And if the flute passes muster, you will have saved a nice three-figure sum compared with an equivalent Yamaha.
