HERITAGE MODELS FROM 'THE SOUNDPOST'
We have one each of the Strad and Guarneri models, professionally set up to a high standard. Further details here. They are labelled but do not have the certificate of origin. Please note that these are advanced instruments intended for post Grade 8 study. The Guarneri model suffered damage when out on approval and now has a repair to a rib near the neck. This repair was professionally done and we have a photo to show what was done. It is now stronger than before it was broken and the repair is very difficult to see. Because of the repair the price has been reduced to £1,000.00. The Strad model (which has not been damaged in any way) is £1,200.00.The list price for each instrument (without high level setup) is £1,565.21

VIOLA (instrument only)

REINHOLD SCHNABL, 16".
1978. German made, label bears Reinhold Schnabl's signature (do not confuse with similar brand names!!) One-piece back, reddish coloured varnish, ebony horseshoe where neck meets body, rosewood fittings, high-level professional set-up. Cosmetic damage including professionally repaired hole on left upper bout rib. The repair was done by putting the broken fragments of wood back together and done by a highly respected repairer (David Snelling). Reluctant sale of Liz's own viola purchased for £1,200 from David Snelling in 1984, which she used for LTCL study (did not pass but that was not the viola's fault!!) Only for sale because after five years of very restricted shoulder movement Liz cannot imagine herself ever being able to do justice to this faithful friend again.
New price (as near as we can ascertain) would be £6,000. Being offered for £2,000 in view of the cosmetic damage.

We are not selling flutes any more (apart from these) so these are our end of the line stock which we are selling off at cost. In some cases the cost is less than the current trade price! We were forced to pull out of flute selling because of the extraordinary brand loyalty of U.K. flute teachers to a certain very popular high priced brand which, in fact, is made in China (apart from their top models which are still made in Japan). We challenge any teacher to try the Armstrong flutes and compare to their favourite brand; teachers should, however, be aware that if you like them (and we think you will), you will have to go hunting somewhere else for some. When they're gone, they're gone.

The Elida Story

We first met each other through internet discussion groups in February 2001 and got married ten months later. Not surprisingly we are convinced that good things can happen on the internet! This picture was taken at our wedding. 

We started trading on the internet through eBay which we still do, Liz's eBay ID being elizabethward. We do not have a posh high street shop - we are determined to keep costs as low as we can - and, since trading without one is a concept which the music industry is slow in coming to terms with, it is hardly surprising that the best known names in the music business did not want to know us. 

That was a blessing in disguise since we had to track down other suppliers who had a more progressive outlook and who have to compete on quality rather than reputation. This has taken us to excellent makers like GLIGA of Romania (strings), GLASSER of USA (bows), MOLLENHAUER of Germany (recorders),  etc.

We believe in personal service. Although we do not have to expertise to set up instruments ourselves, we do use professional repairers when necessary, and no instrument is sent out unless it has been closely inspected and test played. With us you don't have to take a chance receiving an unchecked box from a warehouse!

Many customers have returned to us for larger sizes or for others in the family, and increasingly music teachers recommend us. The feedback we get from parents and teachers is tremendous, and it gives us a real kick to know that we helped to make someone's musical enjoyment possible.
